About Me

Jonson Chong

“The failings of the Government should not be an excuse for us to fail our future generations. I believe we can do much better as a nation – if only we would stand together to make the difference.”

Professionally, Jonson was trained as a lawyer, who preferred taking on public interest and human rights cases. He ceased law practice at the end of 2009. He is now a freelance consultant and the Director of Communications of Parti Keadilan Rakyat.

So far, Jonson has had an interesting career. His previous positions include being the Campaign Coordinator in Suaram, a legal assistant at Messrs. Karpal Singh & Co. as well as the Organising Secretary for Parti Rakyat Malaysia.

He graduated from the University of New South Wales (BCom, LLB) in 1995. Subsequently, with a British High Commissioner’s Chevening Scholarship, he attained a Master’s Degree in Human Rights Law from the University of London (London School of Economics & Political Science) in 2000.

Jonson’s previous community and social activities included being a legal advisor to Positive Living, a council member of Tiara Damansara, a scoutmaster in the 10th K.L. Air Scout Group, and he was the inaugural chairperson of FNS Alumni Network, Malaysia.

Currently, he is working full-time as the Executive Secretary of his school’s alumni association, the MBSKL Alumni Association (previously known as the MBSOBA).
